I have many fond memories of my dad but the special memory I will always have is when I was very little I would act like I fell asleep in the living room just to have Dad carry me to bed and tuck me in.  When you're next to the oldest of five kids you have to be creative to get some loving attention! I will miss his infectious smile and hardy laugh.

The morning you slipped away from us was the hardest thing  I have endured in this life. To see you loaded up and drove off from us and the piece of ground you loved and worked on for more than fifty years was heart wrenching. There hasn't been a day passed that my thoughts weren't on you and the many fun times we shared, like fishing, hunting and working together on the farm where something was always broke or breaking. Dad, I was so blessed to have a father like you, who took the time to teach me about life, respect of others and about the Lord.  You see dad, even when your mind and body was failing you I was still learning. As for mom, rest assured that your children will take great care of her and by the way, she misses you dearly. So dad it's not goodbye, but see you a little later on.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your dad. I'm thankful that you have the Healing arms of God to surround you, and you know you will be together again. You and your whole family are in my prayers. Love you lots, Karen

I don't think I ever met him, but his daughter (my aunt) Anita is such a special person which leads me to believe that he must have been an amazing father!

I remember those camping/hunting trips, eating squirrel and biscuits. Curt was an avid hunter too.

Thanksgiving 2012 was a very memorable time, good family time just about a month from dad's death. Precious memories!

         "MY DAD THE FARMER"
A gentle man, he was my dad, the farmer.
A spot of earth,just lent to him, to tend, to fill and bring to full fruition. He loved the freshness of the dawn, the glory of the sunset glow.
He loved his stock, to see them fed and sheltered from the storm. 
They followed when he came near, he was their friend.
He loved the various seasonal task, the old pesky horse, and the small flock of chickens, the cats and his ol'(also pesky)dog!
He loved his home, his family, his church.
To him the love of his fellow man was showing his love for God. 
He knew the quiet joy of days well spent and his hard work.
  "He was a gentle man, my dad!"

My dad was a very quiet man, but strong when he needed to be.  Especially when he had to discipline us.  I had a deep respect for my dad.  He would only have to give me a look and I knew I had better straighten up or I would get the wrath of his hand.  I remember we had to sit in front of my dad and mom in the old rock church, and if we talked any during the service, we expected to get a flip on the ear from behind us and my ear was red for an hour.  I did not want to be embarrassed, so I quit talking during the service.  In his quiet way he showed me he loved me like a dad should love his little girl.  He carried me to bed and tucked me in at night and told me "goodnight, don't let the bed bugs bite".  I never even believed there was a real bed bug until I was grown, imagine that.  My dad was a very hard worker, and taught all us kids how to work also. I got so tired of digging up potatoes or picking up rocks in the garden!  But I now realize the importance of hard work and providing for the family.  He always had a garden and always grew enough for everyone in the community.  Oh my goodness, all that corn we had to shuck and shelling beans!  The harvest was good though and we had some great summer meals, fried potatoes, fried okra, corn on the cob, and believe it or not every once in a while we had cow tongue which actually was very good. That was the cow dad got sooooo mad at because it would not go to the barn for him. Dad was also the best piddler I had ever been around.  After he retired he always was busy, whether it was working on the lawn mowers, cutting wood for the winter, taking care of his cows, which he loved to do.  When he got sick he told me he really missed having cows.  I am so glad us siblings got to take care of our dad at home, with the help of some wonderful caregivers.  It was a special time to have some very good quality time together.  Our lives have been so blessed to have him, and God allowed him to have almost 91 years on this earth with us.  We are going to miss you dad, but we know toward the end, you wanted to see your mom and dad, so now you have the opportunity to be with them forever.  No more suffering and pain, sorrow, and the worries of this life.  I just hope we can celebrate the memories to help calm the deep hurt and pain we feel right now.  God is our comforter, and will help us be strong in our temporary separation from our dad.  We will see you soon!
