

John H. Avey, 94, of Mulberry, passed away Saturday, February 14, 2026 in Van Buren. He was born January 22, 1932 in Newnata, Arkansas to the late Caroline (Farris) Rainbolt. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was the owner of J&S Trucking.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Avey; a brother Kenneth Avey; and a granddaughter, Stephanie Wagner.
He is survived by a daughter, Lisa Tarmey and husband Joe of Mulberry; three sons, Jim Avey of Mulberry, Lanny Avey and wife Debbie of Thola, Arkansas, and Stanley Avey; a brother, Kevin Rainbolt of Jonesboro; twelve grandchildren, Ashley Bartholomew, Morgan Kenney, Hannah Juarez, Mattie Avey, Jonathan Wagner, Natalie Rice (Derek), RaeLynn Avey, Asa Tarmey, Zachary Tarmey (Shar), Angie Holley (Michael), Brian Avey (Dewyn), and Kateena; nineteen great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 20, 2026 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Fort Smith, under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, AR.
Pallbearers will be Derek Rice, Robert Reed, Cliff Boyd, Stuart Boyd, Billy Boyd Jr., and Dennis Lasiter. Honorary pallbearers will be Devon Kenney, Grant Kenney, Jude Bartholomew, and Lane McKenzie.
