

Roy Eugene Dyer, 74, of Van Buren went to be with the lord on May 26, 2013. He was the seventh of eight children born at home in the Oak Grove Community to the late Dewey and Marie Gooding Dyer on September 12, 1938. Roy graduated from Van Buren High School in 1957, and joined the United States Army in 1962 where he was deployed to Germany. Soon after he got out of the Army in 1967, he went into the furniture business. He loved playing sports as a teenager, going with his little brother Jim to any sporting event that the Arkansas Razorbacks were playing in, and also enjoyed taking his nieces and nephews to the movies and on trips. He attended the New Hope United Methodist Church where his grandparents were charter members. In 1954 he met his wife Ulene Fae Smith when he was just fifteen, and she five. In 1975 they met again as adults. Roy and Fae married three months later on Roy’s birthday, September 12, 1975. This union produced two sons. Roy joined Heritage Church in 1988, and was a member of the Pairs and Spares Sunday School Class that he considered a second family. From the time his sons were old enough to play sports at the Van Buren Boys Club he coached there for eight years, while Fae was a team mom. He enjoyed coaching and being a father. He loved his family, all people, and God. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents; Albert and Margaret Gooding, and Andrew and Lulu Dyer, four brothers; Dewey, Quince, Bob, and Jimmy Dyer, and one sister; Mary Lou Carter.
Roy is survived by his wife Fae of the home; two sons, Jamie Dyer of Little Rock, and John Dyer and wife Jill, of McKinney, TX; two sisters, Nita Fox of Roanoke, VA, Doris Rainwater of Van Buren; and three grandchildren, Hope, Noah, and Emmy Dyer, all of McKinney, TX, as well as his beloved pets, Belle and Rosie.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren, under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers will be Bruce Johnson, Alfredo Maruri, Gary Nishmuta, John Parochka, Mike Rogers, and Kyan Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Udouj and Steven Black.
The family will visit with friends from 5pm to 7pm Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at Edwards Van Alma Funeral Home, 4100 Alma Highway, Van Buren, AR.
