“Semper Bonus Et Fidelis”
(Always good and Faithful)
Dec 29, 1921 – Nov 22, 2021
Always a gentleman, Dad left behind his loving family – daughters Dianne (Jack) Booth and Pauline (Ray) Wiebe; Grandchildren Christina, Laura, Teresa, Kevin, David and Patrick (Caitlin); and Great grandchildren Myla and Tristan. Barry is predeceased by his wife Jeannette (nee MacKay) and son Charles Jack and his brother Arthur.
Barry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. A very good provider, Barry completed a 30 year career with the CRA as an Internal Auditor.
He was born in Shanghai, China and in his early years he enjoyed school at Canadian Academy in Kobe, Japan. While working as a junior clerk for an accounting firm in Hong Kong, Barry was conscripted into the Hong Kong Volunteer Defense Corps when Japan invaded in 1941. He was captured and became a prisoner in the Innoshima POW camp in Japan for the remainder of the war.
Barry really enjoyed many walks on the beaches and took great pleasure in the simple things of life. He was always thankful for his home in Vancouver and was a generous giver to those in need.
A Memorial Service for Barry will be held at Pacific Spirit United Church, 2195 W 45th Ave, Vancouver, BC at 10:30 am on Saturday, December 4, 2021. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army in Barry’s honour. For those unable to attend the services please email [email protected] for the link to live stream services
