It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Cyrus (Kyra) Barbeau, who tragically died on February 26th, 2025, at the age of 33. Their death was accidental and related to their struggles with addiction.
Kyra was a free spirit in every sense of the word. They were intelligent, creative, and endlessly kind. They were a true friend; they had a heart full of love for their friends and family, always offering a helping hand, a listening ear, or their last dollar to someone in need. They had a unique ability to connect with people and inspire those around them to think critically and embrace their authentic selves. Whether through their art, music, or the simple act of being there for those they cared about, Cyrus made the world a better place.
A lover of animals and a passionate artist, Cyrus made significant contributions to the world of street art, leaving their mark in unforgettable ways. They were a sensitive soul, deeply invested in expressing themselves through their creativity, and enjoyed deep, meaningful conversations about life, identity, the world around us, and beyond.
Their kindness, generosity, and ability to make people feel seen will be dearly missed by their friends across Canada and their family, both chosen and biological.
Kyra’s passing leaves a void in the lives of all who knew them, but their legacy of love, creativity, and living authentically will never be forgotten. They are survived by their mother, Samantha, and grandmother, Pat.
A celebration of their life will be held in the coming months in Vancouver. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ankors, which supports Drug Checking and Harm Reduction in the Kootenays and surrounding areas.
Kyra, you'll always be in our hearts, and we'll carry your memory with us every day.
