Passed away in the arms of his loving daughter Fani (Fanoula) and wife Anna Tsiantoulas on June 26, 2016. Born December 11, 1933 in Elassona, Thessalia, Greece, he was predeceased by his parents Fani and Vasili Paliodimos and siblings Eleni, Vangelia, Ismini and George. From a farming community, like many Greeks of his generation, he came to Canada in search of a better life and happened to have met his future wife Anna on her trip back to Greece in 1967. The following year he was able to come to Vancouver to marry her in July 1968. They bore one child Fani (Fanoula) of whom they became proud. Jimi first worked at the Devonshire Hotel and later went to Vancouver Island to work in the kitchen of logging camps. He then returned to Vancouver to work as a proud member of the construction union 1611 on several projects in concrete labour like Lansdowne Mall, Roberts Bank, Arthur Laing Bridge, and his last one before retirement the Stave Falls Hydroelectric Dam. Always hard working and never one to complain, he decided to retire to a life with family and loved going for walks and having coffee with his beloved friends at Oakridge Mall or at the Greek Seniors Café on West Broadway. In his last 8 years of life he struggled greatly with his health but found wonderful care at the Finnish Care Home of Vancouver, where Anna eventually came to join him.
Left to grieve also are his devoted brother-in-law Christos (Katina) Tsiandoulas and family, sister-in-law Tasia (George) Tsiandoulas and family, as well as his Koumbari Spiros (Marianthi) Ganatsios and many friends and "patriotes".
Prayer services will be Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. at St. George's Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 4500 Arbutus Street, Vancouver where a Funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Costa Economos officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, East 33rd Ave., Vancouver, between Prince Edward and Fraser Streets. Donations can be made to St. George's Greek Orthodox Cathedral or to the Finnish Care Home, 2288 Harrison Drive, Vancouver.
