

Dr. Henry Stanley Ballon, B.Sc., M.D., F.R.C.P.(C) passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 6, 2012, surrounded by his family and friends who will miss him greatly. His memory will be cherished by his daughters Laura and Julia, granddaughter Sasha, his sister Elaine and her husband Beno, nephews Marc, Loren, Lee, as well as his great nieces and nephews. Henry studied sciences at McGill University and completed his medical training in Geneva. He spent a year with Dr. Belding Scribner while in residence at Seattle, moving on to specialize in Internal Medicine and Nephrology before coming to work at the Vancouver General Hospital in 1962. He was the president of the BC Society of Internal Medicine for a number of years. With retirement in 1996, he chose to purse his passion for photography, exhibiting black and white compositions at local photography shows. Henry particularly liked portraits, with his favorite and most willing subjects being his family. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to Doctors Without Borders in memory of Dr. Henry Ballon. A celebration of Henry’s life will be held on Saturday Novemeber 3, 2012 from 1-4pm at St. Helen's Anglican Church hall.
