AVIS DE DÉCÈS

Jessie ING

Avis de décès de Jessie ING
AUX SOINS DE

Hamilton Harron Funeral Home

Jessie Ing (nee Lee) passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026 in her 92nd year. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond, in 2017, her parents George Kee Lee and Sui Wing Lee, and siblings Irene, Ken, Richard and Fred. Jessie is lovingly remembered by her daughter Catlin (Lisa), her son Darren (Jennifer), her sisters-in-law Jean Ing, Amie Kelsey, Helen Lee, and Margaret Lee, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Jessie was born in Kamloops, BC, and relocated to Vancouver with her family in 1943. She attended Lord Strathcona and King Edward High School, where she developed close friendships and actively participated in sports such as tennis and bowling.

Shortly after graduating from high school, in 1952 Jessie made history as the first person of Chinese descent hired at Vancouver City Hall, marking a significant milestone for both minority workers and women. Her accomplishment was noted in a few publications including The Vancouver Sun and Chinatown News.

Jessie was active in the Chinese community, participating in many social events including the Miss Chinatown pageant. It was at this time that Jessie met Raymond. After a few years of courtship, they married in October 1958. Jessie continued to work full-time at City Hall, taking a brief break to welcome her children Catlin and Darren. She retired in 1993 after a distinguished thirty-five-year career with the City of Vancouver.

In retirement, Jessie and Ray enjoyed travelling, embarking on several cruises with friends, numerous visits to Las Vegas, and taking coach trips down the U.S. coast. Jessie cherished spending time with friends and family, often entertaining, and warmly welcoming guests into their home. Some pastimes were playing Mah Jong, poker, or visiting the casino. She was known for her kindness and generosity, always thinking of others before herself.

At Jessie's request, cremation has taken place, and no formal service will be held.

Special thanks go to Dr. Will Johnston for the many years of exceptional care for our mom, and to the staff of Unit 4E at Mount St. Joseph Hospital for their compassion and dedication.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jessie's name may be made to Mount St. Joseph Hospital via the St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation https://helpstpauls.com/.
