Darcy was born in Antique, Philippines, to Simplicio and Agapita (Lida) Jaudines in 1944. He attended St. Anthony’s School of Nursing, graduating as the only male nurse in his class. He immigrated to Canada in the 1970s where he spent most of his career as a nurse at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver.
Throughout his life, Darcy was a world traveller and visited nearly every continent. He loved to share memories of his trips, captured in the many photos he took both on film and on his cellphone. His favourite places were to warm locales, preferably with a beach or a theme park. In later years, his travels included pilgrimages and visits to holy sites.
Darcy will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, humour and warm smile. He had many passions including cooking, wine, music and theatre. He enjoyed a great party and he was often on the dance floor grooving to the latest line dancing craze. In retirement, he took singing lessons and joined a performance choir where he fulfilled a dream of performing on stage.
As an active parishioner of Holy Name of Jesus Parish, Darcy was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and sang in the church choir. His grandniece and nephews will fondly remember their Lolo Darcy’s weekly delivery of McDonald’s Happy Meals after mass.
He is forever loved by sisters Juliet (Domenico) Barone and Nadine (Arturo) Catambing. “Papa Dars” will be missed by his many nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff at Mount Saint Joseph’s for their expertise, care and compassion as well as his dear friends, Ray and Carol, for their unwavering commitment to Darcy’s care and support during his final days.
Prayers and visitation will be held on December 19th at 5 PM at Hamilton Harron Funeral Home, 5390 Fraser Street, Vancouver, BC. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on December 20th at 11 AM at Holy Name of Jesus Parish, 4925 Cambie Street, Vancouver, BC. The Rite of Committal will follow at Ocean View Burial Park, Burnaby, BC where he will be laid to rest.
