Kai Yee (佳儒) was born in a rural village outside of Canton, China on June 5th, 1937. He was an intelligent young man who excelled academically and earned the opportunity to study one year at the University of Canton in the late ‘50s. With the political unrest that was brewing in China, he managed to escape to Hong Kong by concealing himself in a Chinese junk boat when he was in his mid-20s. For a period of time he did many odd jobs for basic survival and livelihood in a new city. Mr. Eng.’s fated moment came when he acquired a prominent position as the chief editor of an acclaimed news agency.
Kai Yee(佳儒) is survived by his daughter, Patricia and son, Wayne. Mr. Eng’s pride and joy was spending time with his beautiful grandsons (Joshua, Reagan, Jonathan) and was bless to see his “children’s children” grow up. He was a loving father who raised his two children on his own after immigrating to Canada in 1980. It was not an easy feat! He put his children’s needs before his own by relinquishing a thriving career back in Hong Kong. Kai Yee(佳儒) encountered major language barriers and economic hardships in raising a young family. He disallowed external circumstances to define his family’s destiny. Instead, with a strong mindset and will power he was able to overcome every obstacle so that his children could grow up and have a better future. Mr. Eng was a “man of his word” and pursued moral values over material possessions.
Patricia and Wayne thank God for their father’s love, sacrifice, and provision. Reminiscing Mr. Eng’s life, God was in all the details of his earthly existence. Kai Yee(佳儒) is no longer restless as he has now found his heart’s true home in God.
The memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at 11 am at the Hamilton Harron Funeral Home at 5390 Fraser Street, Vancouver, BC. Burial to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
