Karen is survived by her only child, as well as her mother, sister and two brothers. And will be remembered by her extended family and close friends.
Karen was born in Taipei, Taiwan and immigrated to Canada, with her soon to be husband. She first arrived in Calgary, Canada, and married shortly after, in 1978. Together, they worked at the family’s small restaurant, until they decided to move to Vancouver for warmer weather. There, she earned her CGA designation from Langara College. She would find employment in her field, working at the same company for nearly 40 years. From bookkeeper, to buyer, to operations manager. Even in retirement, Karen continued to help the company, until just before her passing.
After settling into Vancouver, they had their first and only child, a boy. They divorced in 1996, but remained on good terms, she visited him often at the hospital when his cancer got worse.
Karen loved to travel by train, and would often take the Rocky Mountaineer to Banff and Jasper. She also loved taking cruises to Alaska and the Inside Passage ferry trip. Camping at national parks was also a favourite of hers. She loved to be surround by tall mountains and vast oceans. Karen also loved flowers and frequented VanDusen and Butchart Gardens.
Karen will be remembered fondly by all those who knew her. Always generous with her time to help others, concerned with their health and well being, as well as being kind and patient.
Karen chose to be cremated and her ashes will be interred at Oceanview Cemetery, with her father and older sister close by.
Karen’s viewing will take place on Aug. 17, from 10am to 12pm at Hamilton Funeral Home.
