Katerina passed away suddenly and peacefully on Friday, February 21, 2025 in the Intensive Care Unit at Burnaby General Hospital. She was predeceased by her beloved son, Rodos Kefallonitis, parents, John and Anna Sirsiris, and sister, Roula. Katerina is survived by and will be deeply missed by her son Yianni (Elia), beloved granddaughter Katerina, sister Vicki Zogopoulos, brother Bill (Dana) Sirsiris, sister-in-laws Magada and Eleni, and her much loved nieces and nephews along with her extended family and friends in Canada and Greece.
Katerina was born in Agrinion, Greece in 1954 and immigrated to Vancouver from Greece in 1969 with her family at the age of 14. She went to high school at Templeton Secondary and eventually became a mother to Rodos and Yianni. One of Katerina's proudest moments was when her granddaughter, Katerina, was born.
Katerina worked as a waitress at Delphi’s Steak and Pizza restaurant in Vancouver for several years. In 1992, she started a new career at St. Paul’s Hospital in the Nutrition Services department and then transferred to Holy Family Hospital as a care aide. Katerina adored caring for patients and was the proud recipient of an award from Providence Health Care for her outstanding work in patient care.
Family and friends cherished Katerina as well as her culinary skills. She specialized in authentic Greek dishes as well as delicious homemade breads. Katerina was a humble woman who will be remembered for her feisty personality and sense of humour.
A private funeral service will be held for her and she will be placed to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice. The family would like to thank Dr. Luigi Salvino and the staff at Burnaby General Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit for their ongoing consultation, care and compassion.
