

Kim Chow was born in Guangzhou, China on November 8th, 1943 and moved to Hong Kong May 17th, 1963, where he attended and graduated from Chan Wing Cooking School, Hong Kong in 1965. After graduation, he worked as a chef at the TVB Station in Hong Kong from 1971 to 1973.
Cooking was his first love, but that all changed when he met and fell in love with a slim and beautiful Hakka girl named Cindy Tsang in 1971 and married her on April 14th, 1973.Seeking a better life for his family, they Immigrated to Canada on August 13th, 1973 and landed in Medicine Hat, Alberta where he worked at the only Chinese restaurant at the time, Ming Tree Restaurant. They eventually settled in Vancouver on July 1st, 1986.
With his assistance and pioneer spirit, he paved the way for many family members to have the opportunity for a better life in Canada. Not only did he provide for his wife and children, he also worked hard to sponsor his wife’s parents and sisters to come to Canada. In addition, he also provided his nephew the opportunity to a better education in Canada.
He loved and worked really hard to take care of family, and making great sacrifices to provide shelter and education to his children. His children admired him for his excellent handiwork.
Although Mr. Chow puts on a tough façade, he was known among his relatives and friends to be very kind hearted, committed to his family and maintaining his professional cooking standards. He especially found great satisfaction when others enjoyed his great cooking.
Mr. Chow passed away peacefully on February 15th, 2013 at Burnaby General Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Cindy, and 4 wonderful children, Laurie, Rowena, Crystal, and Richard. His family loves him very much and will miss him dearly.
