From the standpoint of Buddhism, life and death are inseparable. It is a natural human emotion to loathe death and be saddened by it. However, in terms of life’s eternity, death is in fact nothing more than a point of departure toward a new rebirth. To carry out vigorous activities tomorrow, we go to sleep, thereby refreshing and “recharging” our lives. Similarly, death is like a port from which we sail on our journey to our next wonderful existence.

March 14, 1991)
