AVIS DE DÉCÈS

Marc Eliesen

Avis de décès de Marc Eliesen
AUX SOINS DE

Mount Pleasant Universal Funeral Home

With sadness we announce the sudden death of Marc Eliesen, on November 13th in Vancouver, BC.

He is survived by his wife Robyn, his children Sara (Kevan), Stephen (Meghan), Karl (Dragana) & Harris (Ashley), his grandchildren Damon, Daria & Theo, and his brothers Seymour (Lydia) & Lou (Rhonda), and many nieces and nephews.

Born in Montreal, Marc attended Sir George Williams College and then moved to Ottawa, and enrolled at Carleton University, where he attained a degree in economics.

Marc started in public service as an economist for the federal government in 1966. He worked with change agents of the time – Tommy Douglas, Ed Schryer, Dave Barrett and Ed Broadbent. From there he had a lengthy and successful professional career as Deputy Minister of Energy in Manitoba and Ontario, CEO of Manitoba Hydro, Ontario Hydro and BC Hydro.

Never shy to give his opinion, Marc had a strong belief in social justice and leveraged his roles to effect change. He also had a wonderful sense of humour, which he shared with his friends and family, and if they were lucky, colleagues.

During his alleged retirement, Marc provided, on behalf of the public interest, opposition to the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion and Site C.

Always fit and active, Marc traveled with Robyn to most places worth visiting, often with their family, but also treasured living in Whistler – enjoying the beauty and wonder of their surroundings, and the memorable times spent with their loved ones there.

Marc will be dearly missed for his intelligent wit, and his love for his family. He lived life to the fullest.

In lieu of flowers and In remembrance of Marc’s life, the family asks that any donations be made to independent journalism -- The Tyee, Narwhal, or National Observer.
