
STEELE(nee STOKER), Margaret (Peggy) Burdon Our gracious matriarch passed away peacefully at her residence on May 10, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. Born November 15, 1914, Peggy was the eldest of five siblings, Rupert, Doreen, Wendy, and Avril. She was predeceased by her husband Bill in 1998, her daughter Kathryn in 2003 and her siblings. she grew up at Dearn House, a family farm in North Vancouver, was schooled at Crofton House and spent her entire life in the Greater Vancouver area. She met her husband Bill at Seaboard Lumber and together they enjoyed 58 years raising their family and supporting one another.
Peggy was a "Jack of all trades". Domestically, she enjoyed sewing, tailoring, knitting and gardening. She was also an enthusiastic sportswoman, enjoying the title of past club champion at Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club and was a lifetime member of Shadow Mountain Golf Club in Palm Desert, California. Fishing was another favourite pastime for Peg. She spent many days at Pennask and at her summer residence, Chain Lake. She taught her grandchildren and great grandchildren the art of casting a fly. Peg described herself as a "Pollyana". She met each challenge in life with a positive attitude and determined spirit. She was a 37 year colon cancer survivor. She was an amazing inspiration to family and to her many friends.
Peggy will be fondly remembered by her son Gordon (Jean), daughter Mary Beth (Roger Rand), son-in-law Brian Craig, beloved sister-in-law Marg Smith, 7 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.We rejoice that after 99 years, Peg has been promoted to glory.
The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Amica at Arbutus and Dr. Sarah Ng for their exceptional support and compassion to both Peggy and to her family.
Peggy's ashes will be placed alongside her husband's in a private ceremony at Chain Lake. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the BC Cancer Foundation at www.bccancerfoundation.com or 150 – 686 W. Broadway Vancouver, BC V5Z 1G1
