Mrs. Maria Bakas

February 13, 1933 - October 17, 2022

With great sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mother and Yiayia, Maria Bakas, in Vancouver, BC at the age of 89, surrounded by her loving children, sister and nephew. Maria was born in Kessari, Greece, and immigrated to Canada in 1957. Predeceased, after 53 years of marriage to the love of her life Dimo, and her three brothers. Survived by her children, Bill (Janice) and Jim (Maria), and her adored five grandchildren, Dimo, Seraphim, Georgio, Lydia, and Joseph, her sister, Evangelia (Demetre), along with nieces, nephews, godchildren, family and friends. Mom was a caring and loving individual, taking care of everyone, especially her children and grandchildren. Two of her happiest places to be was in her garden and her kitchen. What made her most happy was spending time with her grandchildren, and family, and dedicating endless hours volunteering in her beloved Greek Community. It was a life with much admiration and love from all the lives that she touched. Prayers will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 1st, 2022, at St. George’s Greek Orthodox Cathedral - 4500 Arbutus Street, Vancouver, BC, where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 2nd, at 11:00 a.m. Father Nikolaos Sideras officiating. Burial to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Burnaby. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. George’s Cathedral.
