Maria Mantas

November 25, 1938 - December 29, 2013

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister Maria Mantas. She was born on November 25, 1938 in Kallipefky, Greece and passed away surrounded by her loving family on December 29, 2013 in Vancouver B.C. She is predeceased by her parents Zisi and Fotini Karabatis, in-laws John and Vassiliki Mantas and sister-in-law Maria (John) Demou. She will be sadly missed by her loving and devoted husband Sterio of 48 years, children Vicky (Steve), Tina (Jim) and grandchildren Maria, Magdalene, Stefano and Amalia. Maria will be also missed by her siblings in Greece; Thomas, Stamati and Poppy, as well as her faithful brother-in-law Kyriako (Demetra), sister-in-law Eleni (Apostolis) and many of her cousins, nieces and nephews. Her battle was short but hard fought. She will always be remembered by her kindness, generosity and selfless nature. We will miss her fantastic cooking and the daily words of wisdom that she instilled upon her loved ones. She completely ebodied the word mother in always caring, teaching and providing for her family. Prayers will be held on Tuesday January 7th at 7:30 pm at St. George's Orthodox Cathenderal, 4500 Arbustus Street, Vancouver BC, where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday January 8th at 12:00 pm. Father Demerios Partsiafas officiating. Burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Burnaby.
