

Marianne Agnes Beichel was born in Salzburg Austria on September 11, 1939. After graduating from high school, she immigrated to British Columbia and settled in Vancouver. There, she studied for two years (1965-67) at Vancouver Community College. In 1965. she attended University of British Columbia completing a Bachelor of Arts after which she attended Law School for next two years. In 1968, she contributed to the Commission on the Status of Women. After leaving her studies, Marianne worked tirelessly as a medical transcriber, working long hours that allowed her to invest in rental real estate properties. In 1992, she married Philip Burke, a retired high school teacher. Together they moved to one of her favourite properties, the Queen Charlotte heritage building. She then retired and was able to pursue some of her lifelong hobbies, interior decorating, collecting antiques, gourmet cooking and reading. In about 2011, after some health issues, Marianne moved to Cavell Gardens, an assisted living residence, where she lived for her remaining years. Marianne passed away on September 22, 2024 at 85 years of age after a brief respiratory illness. She is predeceased by her husband Philip Burke in 2016. She is survived by her stepchildren, Heather, David and Ian and grandchildren, Washington, Brittany, Brent, Willliam and Evelyn. A memorial tea will be held at Cavell Gardens commemorating her life and is open for attendance via Zoom. Please contact [email protected] for more information.
