It is with heavy hearts, our beloved wife, mom, grandma, sister, aunt passed away peacefully at her Vancouver home of 53 years under the care of her family.
She is survived by her loving husband, Ron, daughter Leya (Gerry), son Tyler (Amy), grandchildren Matthew, Kayla, Colby & Annie, her brother Bill (Jean), her niece and nephews.
She grew up in East Vancouver on Grant Street, she attended Van Tech & received her hairdressing diploma. She married Ron in 1967, moved to South Vancouver & started her family.
Her children had her never ending support, she was always driving them to activities, spent countless hours volunteering at their schools & always cheering them on in all their sports.
As a family there were many bicycle trips but most notable were riding to California & through the Rockies.
She enjoyed many activities such as teaching figure skating, bowling, darts, volleyball & in later years tennis & pickleball in Palm Springs & Mesa, AZ. Marilyn also enjoyed playing all types of sports & games with her children’s friends at her home & cottage at Maple Beach, Point Roberts. She was an active executive member of the MBPOA for many years.
As her grandchildren arrived, she was always available to care for them & support them in their activities.
She enjoyed travelling with Ron, her family & her many friends. Meeting her birth mother Polly & extended family in Calgary, AB was the highlight of one of her trips.
She also enjoyed attending many Masters Tennis tournaments in London, Paris & New York. On her latest trip to London she was surprised by her children & a few friends for her 74th Birthday and a canal boat trip followed.
In her senior years she continued to play tennis with her girlfriends. She & Ron loved to take long walks through the streets of Vancouver together & when possible with their “granddog”, Boomer.
She will always be remembered for hosting many parties, playing cards, having a smile on her face & glass wine in her hand.
We would like to thank VCH Palliative Care home team & Salve Healthcare Services for all their support & care over the past few months.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the BC Cancer Society.
Due to Covid restrictions, a celebration of life will be held in Maple Beach, in the summer of 2021.
