It is with great sadness we advise of the passing of our dear Elder Marion ‘Maggs’ Elizabeth Loretta Joseph. She was born to her late parents Chief Moses and Christine Joseph (nee Newman) on February 5, 1933 and passed away peacefully surrounded by love of family on June 25, 2018 at Lions Gate hospital - she was 85 years of age.
Marion grew up on Mission IR No. 1 and attended Kamloops and St. Paul’s Indian Residential Schools. As a youngster she picked berries and hops and worked in local fish canneries. She later worked as a home and community care worker and a care aide at the Ta-ah’s Lodge. Marion was proud of her ancestry and how the Joseph family maintain the recognition of traditional and hereditary rights. She proudly served on Squamish Nation Chiefs and Council between 1997 – 2001 where she provided valuable information and knowledge. Her hobbies were embroidery, sewing, cooking and flower arrangements and favourite pastimes bingo and casino.
Marion is survived by her children Jonathan(Caralee), Christopher(Lena Marie), Paul(Denise), David(Arlene) and Veronica(Barry); grandchildren Jonathan Jr. (Elizabeth), Elizabeth, Alexander, Tylor, Darcell(Jeremy), Christopher (Cherie), Darryl (Allison), Thomas(Chelsea), Paul(Latoya), Adriano, Christopher(Jennifer), Iris(Andre), Franz, Rosanne(Craig), Brock and Bridgette; great grandchildren Trinity, Jonathan, Jace, Elysia, Julia, Madison, William, Mariah, Jaiden and Amaia; siblings Shirley, Rosina (Jeff), Gloria, A. ‘Vickie’ and Susan(Johnny).
A prayer service will be held at St. Paul’s Church on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at 7:30 pm and a funeral service will be held at Chief Joe Mathias Centre on Friday, June 29, 2018 at 10:00 am, On line condolences can be found at www.dignitymemorial.ca.
