(Chinese translation below)
Nancy Xuan Ketler (née He) went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 3rd 2025 at the age of 54.
Born in Shanghai, Nancy exhibited a natural talent for languages. When she was 18, she happened to meet a retired Canadian lady who offered to sponsor her education in Canada. Little did she know this would be in rural Wolfville, Nova Scotia, where she attended Acadia University. The strange food and culture made her terribly homesick. After moving to Vancouver, she married Daoping and their daughter Kelly was born. After their marriage ended, Nancy worked at many jobs in the restaurant and hotel management industries to support her family, including at the Delta and Four Seasons hotels. She became a proud Canadian citizen in 1997 and completed her MBA at the University of Guelph in 2003.
In 2006 she met Steve whom she would marry in 2012 and gain two stepsons. In 2008 she joined the Royal Bank of Canada as a Manager of Client Care. She excelled in this new environment and quickly rose to Branch Manager and transferred to RBC Private Banking in 2015. Nancy loved her job advising and helping immigrant families who were just as unfamiliar with Canadian customs, language and business practices as she had been in Nova Scotia in 1991.
Nancy also loved teaching and taught business courses at several colleges in Vancouver as well as at Trinity Western University. She enjoyed cooking, painting and travelling with her family to Asia, Europe and the family cottage. After her stage IV kidney cancer diagnosis almost two years ago, she chose to keep her illness private, to keep working, and to live as normal a life as possible.
Nancy’s faith in Christ was affirmed by her baptism at the Evangelical Chinese Bible Church in Burnaby, BC and grew much stronger due to worship with Pastor James and the congregation at Walnut Grove Lutheran Church. Nancy was so thankful for God’s blessings in her life, and she knew that these were but a shadow of the blessings in the life to come.
Nancy is survived by her mother Mei Ying, father Jizeng, sister Jing, brother-in law Biao, nephew Feifei, daughter Kelly, husband Steve and stepsons Ryan and Eric.
Please join Nancy’s family in celebrating her life at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 29th 2025 at Walnut Grove Lutheran Church at 20530 88th Ave, Langley, BC. A light lunch will be served afterwards.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Angel Flight of British Columbia, Hope Air or the BC Cancer Foundation.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Christian Kollmannsberger and Dr. Srinivas Raman of the BC Cancer Agency, and to Dr. Jassy Meng and all the dedicated health care workers at Vancouver General Hospital.
