Nelson (Chun Tao) was born on July 9, 1958 in Nanking, China to Wai Lam (William) and Min Chun (Jean) Lee. In the Fall of 1965, Nelson, along with his mother and younger siblings, emigrated to Canada to join their father and his extended family in Vancouver, British Columbia. Nelson grew up in Vancouver and Coquitlam and enjoyed going to school and learning. He was even part of his high school’s Reach For the Top Interschool competition.
Nelson had a strong interest and belief in religion, recently studying with some Jehovah brothers. Nelson’s faith gave him much comfort and solace after being diagnosed with cancer last year. With Nelson’s treatments, he was unable to continue working with the Coast Mental Health Foundation or see his friends and the community he became a part of.
Sadly but peacefully, on March 2, 2026 Nelson passed away at St. Vincent’s Langara. Nelson was predeceased by his father, William and is survived by his mother, Jean and siblings, Daniel and Angela, as well as Aunts, Uncles and cousins.
The family would like to thank the Kettle Society and the Coast Mental Health Foundation for providing support and friendship to Nelson over the years and also the BC Cancer Agency and VGH.
A Memorial service will be held at Glenhaven Memorial Chapel at 1835 East Hastings Street on March 31, 2026 at 230pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Kettle Society or Coast Mental Health Foundation.
