Nita passed away February 19th after a brief hospital stay. She is survived by brother Gwyn (Kay), sister-in-law Maureen, numerous nieces and nephews, their children, her goddaughter, cousins and dear friends.
She was predeceased by her beloved parents (Naomi and Thomas) and her younger brother Trefor.
Born in Ocean Falls, which she was so proud of, she later moved to Vancouver to pursue a career in education.
Proud UBC alumnus, she was a long time Vancouver teacher (General Gordon and Begbie) who was noted for sharing her passion for education and love of reading through the gift of books to the young people in her life.
For years she sang at citizenship ceremonies and loved the theatre, opera, hymns as well as classical and Welsh music. She was a member of the Welsh Society of BC and the University Women’s club. Nita was always ready to share her opinion and could be counted on to add her voice during a hymn.
Nita hosted many a family turkey dinner and teas with her friends. You could count on the best tea (steeped in a Brown Betty with the cosy on top), percolated coffee and, always, a treat on the side. She was a wealth of knowledge about family history as well as sharing her adventures both overseas and in Canada.
Special thanks to the staff at Chalmer’s Lodge whose kindness, caring, warmth and professionalism we will always remember to be grateful for; the staff at VGH ER and the ACT unit and Edna of Saint Elizabeth Health Care Services.
Please raise a glass of Chardonnay in her memory. A Celebration of Life is being planned for:
The Cambrian Hall
April 21st @ 2pm
215 E 17th Ave
Vancouver, BC.
Nita's urn will be placed to rest at Ocean Burial Park in Burnaby.
