Peter Joseph was born in Leicester, England to parents Norman & Ruby Broomfield, siblings Bryan and Carol. Soon after Peter's father Norman served in World War II, his father decided to move all the family to be safe in Canada and close to the next nearest relative outside of England (Aunt C. Wynn). They all arrived in Canada on March 21, 1948 crossing the Atlantic Ocean on the vessel S.S. Aquitania to Halifax, N.S. and then traveled across Canada by train destined for North Vancouver, B.C.
The Broomfield family settled in North Vancouver to live and for the children to grow up and go to school.
Soon after high school, Peter Joseph went onto his first job, working at a local Safeway grocery store on lower Lonsdale in North Van. packing grocery bags at the young age of 16. Peter Joseph became so fond of the working environment of the Canada Safeway, he went on to continue working there proudly for the next 35 plus years. He received many achievement awards for his commitment and service at Safeway.
Peter Joseph met Kathy Carpenter of the Squamish Nation in 1970 at a social gathering, through some mutual friends. They began to date and soon went on to a loving relationship and took in special son Richard Carpenter. 3 years later the couple had given birth to son Peter Timothy Carpenter-Broomfield, then in 1976, son Jody David Broomfield was born as well. Family went on to live with family in North Vancouver & Port Moody.
Peter Joseph gained many friendships throughout the Squamish Nation community in North Vancouver, which lasted over many years of his life with the Baker's, Joseph's, Johnson families, just to name a few.
Peter Joseph was very fond of sun tanning, playing pool, hot rods and fast cars, bowling, shuffleboard, fishing derbies, hunting, golfing, wood carving & boating with brother in law David Nahanee, and attending the horse track. Bonding time was watching movies and the Vancouver Canucks, Seattle Seahawks, BC Lions, Manchester United Football Team aka soccer at home. Family was always first with Peter. Holiday and birthday dinners were always very special. He loved his fish n chips from C-Lovers.
He was a very proud member of the Army Navy & Air Force Veterans in Canada on 3rd St. North Van. and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie, North Vancouver and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #118 of North Vancouver in honour of his late father Norman Broomfield, WWII Veteran of the Royal British Army.
Later on in Peter Joseph's life, he met his soon to be long time partner Diane Mitchell, through a local North Shore Bowling Tournament. They went on to dating, continued bowling and began travelling to see family out of town to Kamloops, B.C. and Washington State. Peter Joseph took in Diane's family, daughter Keri, son Robbie and Diane's grandchildren Georgia, Martin, and Bradlee.
Peter Joseph was very proud of both of his sons. Peter Jr. who is a hard working man just like he was and Jody being a successful First Nations artist. Both sons soon provided him grandchildren of his own. Peter Jr. had a son Taylor Kyle-Broomfield and Jody had a daughter Aquilina Broomfield with his special daughter in law Ann Broomfield. He was a very, very proud Papa (Grandfather).
Love you daddy/papa. Until we meet again, you will be kept in our hearts, full of great memories.
Your loving family.
