

It is with sadness we advise the passing of Peter Jerome Gonzales on July 12, 2025, at Xwmélch’stn. Peter was born to his mother Jacqueline Norma Gonzales on December 18, 1979, in North Vancouver. He grew up at the Condos in Eslha7àń (Mission IR no. 1), Las Vegas, Oklahoma, USA; and resided in Xwmélch’stn (Capilano IR no. 5). He attended Queen Mary Elementary School, Keith Lynn Alternative School, Carson Graham Senior Secondary School and completed a construction program at trades school. He worked in construction with Larry Campo Construction, and he owned his own construction business. Peter participated in Tribal Journey 2013 to Heiltsuk Nation (Bella Bella, BC.) Peter was an avid outdoorsman he enjoyed hunting and fishing. His favourite sport was boxing; he also loved to play darts and was a master at chess. He was also a collector of almost everything, as the young man, he collected hockey cards, postcards, coins, stamps, shoes and hats. His most prize possession was his Cedar Hat his sister wove for Tribal Journey. Peter loved to cook and garden. He grew his own herbs; rosemary, oregano, thyme and chilies that he turned into great meals for family and friends. He was always giving and helping children. Peter will best be remembered for his selflessness, kindness, and big heart. Peter’s Legacy will live on through his son.
Peter will be dearly missed by his son Decimus Lewis; mom Jacqueline Gonzales; sister Norma Ann Nahanee, Kim M. Nahanee; special children Dayton Lewis Gardner, Faith Lewis Gardner, and Che Lewis Gardner, and many loving relatives and dear friends.
A Prayer Service will be held at the Chief Joe Mathias Centre, 100 Capilano Road in West Vancouver on Friday, July 18, 2025 at 7:00 pm. A Funeral Service will be held at the Chief Joe Mathias Centre on Saturday, July 19, 2025 at 10:00 am. For those wishing to view the service via webcast, please refer to service information below.
