Dear Auntie,

I am saddened to hear about your passing. I will always remember you as a caring and loving person.

When I first met Gavin back in elementary school, I remember that you and Gavin invited me over after school on the first day so that I could play more with Gavin. Since then, you had always welcomed me whenever Gavin invited me over after school. You gave us snacks while we played and I always remembered you as that caring adult that I could trust.

As we grew up, you always remembered me even though we didn't see each other as much anymore. It was a small but meaningful gesture.

You will be missed but I know you are at peace now. A loving heart will always have a place in the heavens.

Dearest 細姨仔,

It was a shock when I learned about your sudden demise.

When I was a kid, you often took me out and looked after me with great care. Your warmth, thoughtfulness and kindness touched me so deeply that I still remember today. While it’s hard to say goodbye, I find comfort in knowing your memory will live on in the stories shared here and the love you gave so generously.

Thank you for the light you brought into our lives. You were a blessing to all of us, and we will hold you in our hearts forever.

I will not forget the times I spent at the home at Chong Yip Centre, the hot pot dinners over on Spruce street, and the delicious dinner you prepare during family gathering at your house in Burquitlam.  I am grateful for the care you provided me all these years especially when my parents are not in Vancouver.

I'm still a little shocked at your sudden passing and it's hard to put into words how grateful I am to have had you in my life. 

Growing up, your house was my second home, where I'd spend hours after school; you always had a delicious snack waiting for me. Your cooking, in particular, was spectacular. Every meal was prepared with so much love, thought and time. I always looked forward to coming over for dinner. 

A little thing that sticks out in my memory was how every Halloween, you would make a custom treat bag just for me, filled with candy and goodies. I remember being so excited to reach your house as I slowly trick-or-treated my way up the street. 

But what I'll miss most about you is your unwavering warmth and happiness. You exuded calmness and was always such a steady, loving presence in everyone's lives. 

I hope you are able to rest in peace now, and am glad you are no longer suffering. I'm thankful for all the moments we shared and will carry them with me always.

Dear Leung’s Family,
I am writing to express my deepest condolences on the passing of Auntie Pik Ha Leung Au.  It is with a heavy heart that I inform you I will not be able to attend the funeral in Canada.  My mother in Hong Kong has taken a turn for the worst and is in a critical condition, requiring my immediate care and attention.
I am devastated to miss this important occasion to pay my respects and offer support, but I am currently unable to leave my mother’s side during this difficult time.
Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you all during this incredibly painful period.
If there is anything I can do from afar, please do not hesitate to let me know.  I am here for you and I will support you in any way I can.

Dear mother in law, it’s still such a shock that you’re no longer here with us. Thank you for all the love you had for all of us, you gave us the best of everything.

I still remember how when I gave birth to Allysya and spent the first month at your home, how you took care of me (and Allysya), we are forever grateful of your love.

You have been taken from all of us too soon, but I feel at peace knowing that you are no longer in pain, and onto a better place.

We have been blessed to be in your family, until we meet again.

To my dearest Mom,

There are no words that can fully capture how much you meant to me, but your love, strength, and warmth will always be a part of me.

When I was young, you knew how much I loved playing with toy cars. You bought me one every week, and it always made me so happy. It’s a simple memory, but one that has stayed with me all these years.

I will always remember how strong you were—not just in good times, but even when things were most difficult. Even when you were very sick, you stayed brave and never complained. You faced each day with calm and love. Your strength during that time showed us how amazing you truly were. Watching you fight so bravely reminded us of the incredible woman you had always been.

Your cooking was love in its purest form. The kitchen was your space of magic, where you poured your heart into every meal, turning simple ingredients into something unforgettable. The scent of your special dishes still lingers in our memories, bringing comfort on the hardest days. 

Though we miss you deeply, your presence remains all around us—in the recipes we try to recreate, in the way we love, and in the quiet moments when we feel you near. Your love lives on in the hearts you touched, and that love will never fade.

To my mother Sylvia Pik Ha Leung Au,
Your passing had come very sudden for the family. It felt like it was yesterday when I last spoke to you over dim sum at the local Chinese restaurant. I would ask you about your weekly routine which consist of morning walks at the Port Coquitlam Trail, food adventures within the local area and visits to the Fu-Hui Buddhist Temple. Although some may find the routine mundane, I find that it brings a peace of mind knowing that my mother and father are safe and sound.

My mother has always been very supportive as I grew up. She had given up her career to care for me and my brother. During my elementary school years, I would recall my mother volunteering for the school during hot lunches. Together, we would hand out hot dogs/pizzas and drinks to the other students. Without fail, she would help me prepare for upcoming tests/assignments, and walk me to and from school. As I grew, words of encouragement would help me carry on as I graduate from University. 

I find the word ‘perseverance’ very fitting for my mother. She was a cancer survivor and it was not an easy battle while watching her go through surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. My mother persisted, and she went through the next few years successfully without issues from the cancer. Perseverance in my mother helped shape me who I am today. And it was through perseverance that I was successful in my 6 months of rigorous training in the prairies.

The appreciation I have for you cannot be measured for all the things that you have done for me. Although your passing was sudden, I know that you are now in a better place.
