October 20, 1946 - November 4, 2021
Family and friends are saddened to announce the passing of Renate Magdalena
Mueller just weeks after her 75th birthday. Her two-year battle against cancer
took her far too soon. She did not go without a fight and lived every day as a new
challenge. Despite becoming weaker and tired from her treatments, she
remained committed to everyone in her life, enjoying as much time as she could
with all her friends - welcoming visits, phone calls and text messages until the
day before she passed. She never complained during her battle against the
"SOB" as she named it.
Born in Germany, Renate and her sister Monika immigrated to Canada in 1953
with their parents Horst and Gerda Mueller. They arrived in Montreal and made
their way across Canada finally settling in Vancouver.
Renate became a Chartered Accountant and went on to excel in her profession.
She bought her father's insurance company and proceeded to triple the
business. Insurance was her game. She ventured into the insurance Mergers
and Acquisitions business where she was extremely successful. Renate was a
trailblazer, the first female President of the IBABC in 2003, a great recognition of
her contributions to the industry. She was an entrepreneur, involved in several
business ventures while growing her business as an M&A consultant. She
became actively involved in her passions and sat on many committees and
boards.
Renate was an amazing woman, with loads of character, who enjoyed every
moment of life. Anyone who met Renate would not forget her! She made an
immediate impact on your life from the moment you met. She was not shy, and
she lived her life on her own terms. She was curious to know all about you and
you were included in her worldwide collection of friends. Golf, travelling and
socializing with friends kept our super energized bunny going. Renate belonged
to many clubs including Beach Grove Golf, Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club,
Jericho Tennis Club and The Vancouver Club. She was the social butterfly of the
clubs, making many long lasting and interesting friendships. Another of her
favorite golf clubs was Chateau Whistler where she enjoyed many summer
rounds of golf as well as many visits to the Mallard lounge. It would be remiss not
to mention all the wonderful staff of these clubs that took such special care of
her.
Another one of her passions was cars. Not just any car, her Bentley. Renate may
have only been 4 feet 11 inches, but she drove her beloved white, convertible
Bentley like a seasoned race car driver. There were many Bentley trips around
the world where she was taught the art of driving - controlled and fast - and she
loved it. She also was excited to be one of the first to invest in a flying car
manufacturer. This took her on test flights, and she attended trade shows where
she was a strong advocate for the innovative idea of flying vehicles.
Renate loved to travel the world with family and friends, but she would
sometimes go on solo trips only to find new friends once she arrived. There were
also many pieces of luggage that accompanied her on these trips which turned
into some very humorous stories - "Schlepping" Renate's luggage was no easy
task!
She had so many stories she shared with us over the years. The fun thing is that
she laughed at herself most of all. She would start telling a story of her
escapades and she could hardly get through it without breaking up. Renate was
eminently aware of her foibles. These many stories will keep us all laughing
every time we think of her.
Our girl loved to dress up and she had an outfit for every occasion. She would
sparkle as well as color match from head-to-toe topping off with a hat,
sunglasses and sometimes a fur coat. She did command a room when she made
her grand entrances, and she loved the attention.
Renate was just a great human being. She really cared for people and in turn,
many charities have been the recipient of her generosity over the years. She
also was very active in golf charities which raised funds for many organizations.
On the Thursday afternoon of Renate passing two beautiful rainbows appeared
and then to follow things up, a tornado blew through days later just to remind
everyone she is still here in spirit.
Renate had the best care. Many thanks go to Dr. Smrke and all the staff at BC
Cancer and VGH as well as the paramedics for their kindness and care.
There were also Renate's "Angels" that were always there for her everyday
needs, as well as caregivers that cared for her dearly. She was very appreciative
of their kindness. Thank you all for reaching out to her and encouraging her
through these past years. It gave her the strength to fight as hard as she did. She
loved you all.
Renate was predeceased by her husband Keith Windsor. Survived by her sister
Monika and husband Wayne Hilson.
Donations to the BC Cancer Society and the Monroe House in Renate's memory
would be greatly appreciated.
A Celebration of life will take place in 2022. Details will be announced later. Fond
memories may be shared at www.hamiltonharronfunerals.com.
