Rocker Rob was more than a son to Florence and Ed Langille, brother to Lucille Freeman, brother-in-law to Don and Uncle to Tessa and Graedon; he was "friend" to many. He welcomed Graedon's wife, Kenzie and Tessa's partner, Roy into the family with love and sincerity. Rob met his match when he met Cody and thoroughly enjoyed the "Big Bro" role with walks and talks together.
Rob lived his adult life independently doing what he loved; listening to hours and hours of classic rock - John Fogerty, The Stones, The Headpins, Bryan Adams to name a few. Rob was a night-owl and he'd often leave long voice memos for Lucille sharing his joy of music.
He was well-known to vendors on 'The (Commercial) Drive' and his presence will be missed. Rob had a unique way of connecting with strangers that made him unforgettable and he shared his stories of comradery in a way that could make a person feel the 'feels'.
One of his many admirable qualities was his ability to see past any limitation the world put in his path. With support from his team, Rob achieved his goals and never tired of learning new skills. This began at an early age due to the unwavering and unconditional love he was shown at home.
Ed was Scout Master for several years; giving Rob the opportunity to feel community with his peers while building self-confidence... and then allowed for him to use his skills building fires, roasting marshmallows and setting up family tents on summer vacation. Rob filled his Boy Scout sash with every possible badge and accolade - this incredible accomplishment he gifted to his only niece, Tessa.
Florence was a strong advocate and fought hard to ensure he was provided with the best possible education the schools could provide. This usually meant ruffling feathers; but she stood a little taller and believed 'adequate' was not good enough for her son. Florence taught and encouraged the young 'Robbie' to cook and he used those skills to make delicious curry, and would prepare a full Christmas dinner to share with his friends at China Creek. Lucille, well, as a youngster, she wasn't afraid to throw punches in the direction of mean-spirited kids, as teens she snuck him past their parents when shenanigans ran wild, and as an adult she did her best to advocate on Rob's behalf.
Rob loved the Okanagan and would visit Lucille and her family as often as time allowed; he was a very busy man! Early years, Uncle Rob would take Tessa and Graedon each by the hand for a walk to the local 7-11 for slurpee treats and play time at the park. He was trusted beyond measure and loved his niece and nephew without bounds. He was honored and felt a deep sense of pride in their accomplishments at each milestone. Don and Rob had their own special relationship; Rob could talk for hours about common interests and Don provided him the space and patience to do so. Endless text messages with questions was just expected...and Don was born to be the buffer.
A special thanks to long-time family friends Sharon, Glenna, Donna and Di; you went out of your way to appreciate what Rob gave to the world.
Rob's family would like to extend so much gratitude to Coast Mental Health, China Creek Support Staff and his Care Team at Raven Song with a special shout out to Dr. Dann.
The PNE! Oh my gosh! Rob's job at this yearly event gave him joy and purpose beyond measure. He shared his adventures leading up, during and after his shift, daily, for 10 weeks every year that he worked there. Lucille never tired hearing about the kindness and acceptance Rob felt on-the-job. Vendors comping food and drink, back stage access to concert events (when allowed)! He was living his best life. Thank you, PNE.
Rob would have celebrated 58 years on June 23 - if you read this and want to honor him, grab yourself a big-gulp raise it to the sky and think of him every time you hear good rock music.
Lucille thanks you, Hippy Brother Rob, for your unconditional love and life-lessons over all our years together. PS. Your name is going on the Family Bench at Skaha...Love you always in all ways.
