April 30, 1934 - April 14, 2016
With great sadness, we announce the passing of our husband/father/grandfather whom we loved dearly. Roland passed away peacefully at home with his wife by his side just shy of his 82nd birthday. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 55 years, Jeanette (aka Limmy), his children, Russell (Mable) and Jaylene (Jack) and granddaughters Amanda and Rylie. He is survived by his siblings, James (Clara), Bessie, Daisy (Roger), Victoria (Kenneth) and Lila (David) and predeceased by Mary Ann. Born in Nanaimo, BC, Roland lived most of his life in Vancouver and attended Strathcona Elementary and Kitsilano Secondary Schools. He also graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of British Columbia and had a lengthy career at BC Tel as a Professional Engineer. Roland loved to golf and play bridge, but most of all, he loved and cherished spending time with his two granddaughters who meant everything to him. The family would like to thank the team of Dr. Laskin and Bonnie Leung at the BC Cancer Agency, Dr. Wi-Guan Lim, and all the staff and residents at Legacy Senior Living who made his final months as enjoyable as possible. At Roland's request, there will be no service. His family will be remembering him privately. In lieu of flowers, to honour his memory, donations can be made to the VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation. Donate online at www.tinyurl.com/RolandChew by phone at 604-875-4676 or mail to VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation, 190 - 855 W. 12th Ave., Vancouver, BC, V5Z 1M9.
