 I remember Ross with such fondness. He was kind to me always, gentle, polite, and considerate. I particularly recall the period when he lived in the basement suite after Joan died. His presence at gatherings on the back deck, and for Passover.
In September 2014, he came with Viviana and Ian to a small gathering I held to honour my father’s 92nd birthday.  I recall my father, bent with osteoporosis, looking up in amazement (and probably envy!) at a tall, and straight-backed Ross, towering above him. 
When I learned Ross had died, the event I recalled first was the trip we all took to Gabriola in March of 2016, to check out properties for sale. He looked carefully at the nine we checked out, and made astute comments, with his builder’s eye, about things that weren’t on my radar. I remember him taking me around the back of the first one, pointing out that the deck was floating inches above a swamp and that some of the support beams were sodden. The way he shook his head spoke volumes.

My fondest memory of Ross and Joan was him bringing me back a watermelon (each time he left the house pretty much) - calling me hollow legs and having competitions to see who could spit the pips the furtherest (to my Dad's annoyance!)

The last time the three siblings were together at Kathryn's wedding.  Lovely to have them here and share a family occasion together.

We have many fond memories of family dinners and holidays with Ross over the years and some special memories of Ross and Joan joining us for summer vacations on Hornby Island and Cortes Island.    Ross will be remembered with affection.

Many happy times spent with Ross and Joan on Saltspring Island. There was a core group of about 12 of us, all ages, that got together regularly over the years including their good friends Doris and Hugh Phillips.

Their friendship, and love of life is a lasting and cherished memory.

Ross always said he would like to 100 so I am sad to see him go but happy that he made it so close to 100.  I have many great memories of Ross and Joan.  Ross was always willing to try anything, including squirrel!  

From Albie Wren. One of my best memories of Ross was when Louise, Maureen and myself visited Aunt Joan and Uncle Ross on Salt Spring Island. We were sitting with Ian, Joan and Ross and he offered us a drink Maureen asked for Bacardi and I asked for Gin. Ross poured them from the same bottle. When I queried this with him ha answered, “I only distil Clear and Brown spirits”. Ian and Ross had the Brown one Whiskey. He also offered us Venison, which he hadn’t got from the butchers shop. In his garden there was also a fenced off piece where he was growing “Weeds”. Ross was such a lovely man and I consider myself truly blessed to have met him. My one regret is the stupid face I pulled of his wedding photo. I have to say though, the best story involved Dear Aunty Joan when she insisted on administering an enema on another family member. I have never laughed so much in all my life when I was told this story. Joan and Ross were truly lovely people and all The Wrens loved and cherish their memories so much. Farwell Dear Uncle Ross.

In the more than 50 years that I knew Ross I always enjoyed our chats, something that was rare for me with men of his generation. We didn't always agree but we each listened with respect, especially when there was a glass of beer or wine near at hand.

We spent many happy summer holidays with Ross and Joan.in New Zealand. I always remember his strong, solid presence and the many stories of a fascinating life lived to the full.
All of the Putan clan send lots of love to his family.
Will raise a glass ( whiskey, of course) to you when we next visit to Brett and Mandy.

Ross was always a pleasure to have over. He would come and stay with us for a couple of days every so often and we would share meals and Ross would share his life stories, which were always captivating and full of life. A trait I have observed in all the Angus men. I will always remember these two and their chats! A great man and a lovely family. Xo

Ross was such a good father in law to me, we shared many good times, jokes and meals together. Over the last many years that we haven't travelled to Canada, I have missed his presence.  I have so many fond memories of him and Joan, in New Zealand and in Canada, too many to single out just one. He was a much loved member of my family as well as his own
