Sau Po was born in Shanghai, China on December 28, 1945, and moved to Hong Kong at the young age of 16. She met her husband, Chi Man (Robert), in 1964 and married two years later. In 1976, they immigrated to Canada, settling in Vancouver to raise their family.
In the years following, she was employed at Trimseal Plastics and formed many close friendships. The Christmas dinners, dim sum meals, weddings, and laughter that she shared with her colleagues held a special place in her heart. At home, she loved cooking and trying new recipes, gardening, keeping the home spotless, and caring for her family including Dao Dao, the family dog.
Sau Po retired in 2011 after the passing of her husband. During this difficult time, she remained strong for her family and gained some newfound independence. She moved to Coquitlam and filled her days meeting new neighbors, shopping, dining with friends, learning to use an iPad, and travelling. Memorable trips included Taiwan, Washington DC, Yukon, and Korea. However, the thing that she enjoyed most was spending time with her family celebrating holidays and individual milestones, never forgetting to give out “lai-see”.
Sau Po is survived by her sons David (Grace), William (Cece), Philip (Cindy), daughter Vincie, grandchildren Alison (Riley), Brendan, Jordan, Ryan, Justin, Kiera, and Matthew, and great grandchildren Brooks and Lennon. She is also survived by her siblings Tony and Anita and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by husband Chi Man, parents Ching Zan and Yue Dee, brother Kak Kan and sister Lisa.
She will always be remembered for her kindness, love and compassion and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, staff, and volunteers at Royal Columbian Hospital, Eagle Ridge Hospital, and Crossroads Hospice for all their care and support during her last few months. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to Crossroads Hospice or to the charity of your choice.
