So Ching Liu 廖素貞

LIU, So Ching廖素貞, 99, of Vancouver, BC, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, surrounded by her family. She is survived by her four children, Rosalind, Florence, Patrick, Anthony (Tony) and their families.

So Ching was born on January 6th, 1926 in Hong Kong, to Liu, Wan Ng廖雲伍 (father) and Sin, Yuk Ping 冼玉屏(mother). She was the 16th child in the family of 22 children.

So Ching was able to complete her high school education after the end of World War 2. Her high school graduation certificate is one of her most prized possessions and is a point of pride.

She married Chiu Yu Nam on January 7th, 1949 and they had four children. She devoted her life to her family focusing on their upbringing and education to ensure their future success.

After the sudden passing of her husband in 1988, she subsequently relocated to Canada and settled in Vancouver. So Ching built a happy and fulfilling new chapter of life, surrounded by her 4 children, 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and numerous friends.

She was the matriarch of the Chiu family and had a knack for remembering every birthday, anniversary and important date in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives, all while building up the family business in Vancouver with Florence and Patrick. Her organizational skills were exemplary and her willingness to explore new technologies was boundless. A compassionate and hard working soul, she will be sorely missed.

Celebration of life service will be held at Hamilton Harron Funeral Home, February 12th, 2025 at 10 am.
