It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Stavroula Melanidis. Our mother was born March 22nd 1933 and passed away on January 12th, 2024. She was predeceased by her husband Paschalis, in 2021.
Stavroula met her husband Paschalis while working at a bakery in Athens. They were married in 1961, and went on to have 2 boys, before emigrating their family to Canada in 1969. A third boy followed in 1970. Raising her sons and working in the family business became our mother’s focus. She loved to sing and dance and always looked forward to the many dinner dances at the Greek Community.
Her connection to Greece was never broken and she visited multiple times, with family in tow, to visit her mother, sisters and brothers. In her later years, she enjoyed outings with girlfriends including coffee on Broadway and bingo at the Seniors’ Centre. Her smile, laughter and sense of humour were loved by everyone.
She will be greatly missed by her sons Chris, Mina, Niko, daughters in law Voula, Michele, Irene and her 5 grandchildren Marina, Mila, Stavroula, Pascal and Gabriel. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, who she loved very much. We will always love you mom, you will always be in our hearts.
Services will be held at St George Greek Orthodox Church on Thursday January 25th at 12pm, followed by internment at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Burnaby and a luncheon in the upper hall of St Georges Community Centre.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the BC Cancer Foundation.
Broken Chain
We little knew that morning
God was going to call your name,
In life we loved you dearly
In death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you
You did not go alone,
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home.
You left us beautiful memories
Your love is still our guide,
And although we cannot see you
You are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken
And nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one
The chain will link again.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.MountPleasantFuneral.com for the Melanidis family.
