Over her life, Steph lived in different parts of Canada, including London and Ottawa, Ontario; Calgary, Alberta with her former wife Sarah Weaver; and Vancouver, B.C., with her former partner Courtney Calloo (now deceased). After making her way to western Canada in the 1970s, Steph spent most of her life living in Alberta and B.C. She attended the University of Lethbridge and graduated with a degree in Physics. She worked in the 1970s-80s in geophysics and teaching math.
Steph was a unique, one-of-a-kind, special person. Her life path followed a long journey of self discovery, including understanding herself as a transgender person late in life. This transition was profoundly important for her, affording her a sense of peace and joy in who she was.
Steph was passionate about knowledge, discussing any and all topics with zest. She was truly a wealth of knowledge about politics, science, math, geography, history, and food. She loved to debate and had a wicked sense of humour. She also developed her own distinct fashion sense and cultivated a taste for the gourmet over many years.
Steph was generous and loving and will be deeply missed. She is survived by her daughter, Rebekah Kipp (Isaac Mundy), two grandchildren, brother Gordon Kipp, two nephews, and other extended family.
In memory of Steph, please consider a memorial contribution to Lookout Society (https://lookoutsociety.ca/). Anyone wanting to pay respects is welcome on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, between 2:30-4:00 pm at Glenhaven Memorial Chapel on 1835 E Hastings St, Vancouver. There will be time for visitation and viewing at 2:30, with a structured time of remembrance starting at 3. For those who wish to join, we will head out afterwards to share food at a local restaurant.
