Stephen Angus Bowdridge
Sunrise: January 1, 1958 – Sunset: August 3, 2020
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our dear friend Stephen Angus Bowdridge. Stephen was born to his late father Emmanuel and Edith (nee MacDonald) Bowdridge in Nova Scotia on January 1, 1958. Born at the stroke of midnight he was the first baby of Canada that year.
Stephen was known to be a hard worker and very driven. He was a cement finisher by trade and excelled in stamping. He loved fishing and cooking (if someone else cleaned up after him) and his favorite pastime was watching Stampede Wrestling, WWE and WWF – something all the kids, nieces and nephews remember fondly. Stephen resided on Capilano IR No. 5 for 16+ years with his loving wife Claire Johnston. Together they opened a little Rez Store out of their basement where local teens and kids loved to treat themselves. Stephen had a great report with all his customers and was known to tease his regular customers and loved to hear them laugh. Stephen was an active vendor at Squamish Nation Events and attended the Pow Wow and Canoe Races annually with family to sell products of all kinds. He loved holidays - Christmas, Easter and Halloween their house was always decorated to the max.
Stephen will be dearly missed by his loving wife Claire Johnston; and very special family: children Lisa Andrew –Slisia, Kim Mitchell (John), Rick Mitchell (Harmony), Tracy Mitchell; grandchildren Megan & Jessie Andrew, Rosslynn & Everett Drewery, Ashley & Marcus Thomas, Paris Hackett, Conner, Machiaya & Keydon Mitchell, Laura, Waylon Jr. & Billy Mathias; great grandchild Analee Andrew. Steven is also survived by and will be dearly missed by his parents Edith and Alex Gutfriend; son Ryan Bowdridge (Sarah); grandchildren Rehanna, Kadince & Layne; Brothers Bruce, Anderson ‘Andy’; and sisters Bonnie, Kellie and Perrie and their families.
We understand this is a difficult time for families and relatives and that many people would have liked to attend but at this time it is impossible due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
