Stephen Dean Starcevic passed away peacefully on May 25, 2025, after a long battle with lymphoma. Steve was born in Vancouver on January 21, 1943, and lived there most of his life. He was the elder son of Stjepan and Emily Starcevic. He is survived by his wife Joanne, his daughter Laura, his son Andrew and his brother John and several nieces and nephews.
Steve worked as an architect at the Vancouver School Board until his retirement. In his spare time he worked tirelessly renovating and fixing up his house on 6th Avenue leaving a beautiful house for his family which we all love and appreciate.
Steve had many friends which he kept in close touch with until the present time. He loved to travel. In the 1960's he had an eventful trip with Michael across the United States and then sailed on the Queen Elizabeth to Europe with more friends. The Wild Colonial Boys had adventures galore and some of the stories from these trips are regaling us to this day. Later on, yearly trips followed with his family.
He will be terribly missed by his family and friends. He had a sharp mind, a generous spirit and a laugh that could fill a room. He was always there to lend a helping hand. So “Fare thee well, my own true love. If I had a friend all on this earth,
You’ve been a friend to me.”
Remember by Christina Rosetti
Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you planned:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.
