It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas James O’Quinn, a beloved husband and father. Tom passed away at home at the age of 69, following a courageous battle with PSP disease.
Tom is survived by his wife of 40 years, Claire (Ryan) O’Quinn, and his daughters Brittany, Jillian (Chris), and Morgan (Evan). He is also survived by his brothers Bernie (Jo), Joe (Denise), Gordie, and Cyril (Helen); his sisters Pauline and Mary Jane (Arch); and many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Tom was predeceased by his parents, Cyril and Sarah; his sisters Caroline, Judy, and Irene; and his brother-in-law, Ivor.
Tom had many lifelong friends and work associates, but he will be especially missed by Alex McDonald, David Gray, and his adopted Japanese family, Aiko, Yuiko, and Momoka.
Born in North Sydney; Nova Scotia, Tom was the baby of ten children. He attended St. Joseph’s High School where he met the love of life at the age of 15. He graduated from the college of Cape Breton and obtained an accounting degree. He worked as a business manager and later in life as a Realtor.
Tom loved hockey, both as a player and as a fan of the Montreal Canadiens and the Vancouver Canucks. He was a huge Bluejay fan, never missing a game. He loved tennis and enjoyed teaching the little ones a few pointers. Tom spent endless hours coaching, cheering, and driving his girls to soccer and he enjoyed every minute. Any out of town visiters to the O’Quinn house were treated to a grand tour of Vancouver, fondly known as the "Tommy Tour."
Most of all, Tom will be remembered for his huge heart, quick wit, dry humor, and his one-liners.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Fraser Health Home Care Providers for their compassionate care, Mike Lee for his friendship and continuing to help Tom find a little comfort. and to the Mount Pleasant Funeral Home. There will be a private celebration of life.
