Sunrise: February 21, 1939 – Sunset: April 17, 2026
Our sincere condolences to Antone/Kelly, Albert and Jacobs families.
It is with great sadness we advise that our dear elder Virginia Elizabeth Jacobs (nee: Kelly) passed away peacefully, surrounded by love of family, on Friday April 17, 2026 at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver. Virginia was born to her late parents Gladys (nee: Albert) and John ‘Jack’ Robert Kelly on February 21, 1939, in Spences Bridge, BC. (IR No. 4). Virginia grew up on a ranch at Cook’s Ferry Indian Band in Spences Bridge; also in Squamish (Stawamus IR No. 24); and Xwmélch'tstn (Capilano IR No. 5) in West Vancouver. Virginia attended St. Georges Residential School in Lytton, BC where she was known to be a protector and cared deeply for her siblings; and Magee Secondary School in Vancouver. She met her loving husband Gordon while picking berries on Bainebridge Island, WA, USA and married him at the age of 20. They were married for over 70 years and together they raised family at Xwmélch'tstn (Capilano IR No. 5). Virginia took to the Jacobs family quickly and learned from her mother-in-law the skill of working with wool. She was a master wool spinner and knitter who knitted Cowichan sweaters, vests, sitting blankets, leggings, bags or spun for wool hats or did whatever was needed at the longhouse. Virginia was also a seamstress in Vancouver and could look at a client and design and create clothing to fit. She sewed her children’s clothing as needed. Virginia will best be remembered for her radiant smile, love, kindness and thoughtfulness.
Virginia is survived by her loving husband Gordon Jacobs; children Peggy Ann Williams (Ed), Monica Gay Jacobs, Alfred John Jacobs (Karlena), Mary Ellen Jacobs; special children Barbara Louise Nahanee (Tink), Nick Henry Jacobs, Melvin Paul Jacobs Jr.; grandchildren Gordon C. Paul Jacobs (Jaime), Edward John Williams, Craig Scott Jacobs (Brandy), John Kelly Jacobs, Alfred Frank Jacobs, Jewel Madeline Jacobs, Monica Ann Jacobs (Gary); great grandchildren Savannah Faith Henry-Jacobs, Caleb Scott Jacobs, Cameron Wyatt Jacobs, Lexi Marie Jacobs, Craig Lawrence Jacobs; siblings Justina Kelly, Robert John Kelly and many loving relatives and dear friends.
