We are devastated to announce the passing of our dear Mom and Grannie, Yosh(i) at the age of 84 surrounded by loved ones. She was predeceased by her parents Yoshimatsu and Haruko Haya and her brothers, Ichiro and Tetsuo (Gail). Survived and dearly missed by Sharon (Rod), Doug, Gerry (Maureen), grandsons Ryan and Tyler, siblings Chiyoko, Hiroko and Katsuji (Jane) and her most loyal companion, Tyan along with so many extended family and friends. Mom was born in Steveston, BC and lived in Taylor Lake during the Interment years, Forest Grove, Kelowna and then back to the West Coast. Mom was our pillar and her “A-1 and Family First” attitude created a home filled with so much love, joy, compassion, support and kindness. Her generous hospitality, warm and welcoming personality made her a second mom to many who called her Grannie/Auntie Yosh, Mrs. M or Mrs. Mats. Feisty and energetic, she was known as the Baking Mamma whose specialties included her Banana Bread, Chocolate Chip and Dads Cookies. The aroma of her baking always changed the mood for the better. Mom was always happiest with a house full of people and food. Family gatherings, barbeques, Xmas Eve parties and fund raising events for 100 were common place at her home and backyard. Her unlimited, vibrant energy, loyalty, sincerity and genuine love for people made her a treasure - a shining gem. Over the years, mom enjoyed 5 & 10 pin bowling, Healthy Heart class, Texas Holdem, MJ, the casino, walking with Tyan, taking the Transit for her hair appointments and visiting with her friends. An avid sports fan, she was the biggest fan and cheerleader at Ryan and Tyler’s games. Mom lived by her character of giving, caring, sharing. She made the world a better place. Mom enjoyed many deep and lifelong friendships, which filled her heart with love, joy and gratitude. Truly, one of a kind. To remember mom, we encourage you to practice The “Yoshi Way” - be positive, strong, tenacious and just do it. Mom sacrificed so much for us and we are forever grateful. Flowers and koden are gratefully declined but donations can be made in mom’s name to a charity of your choice. A celebration of Life will be held at a later date when guidelines allow. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for your support and kindness. Always loved and remembered. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared below for the Matsumoto family. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Glenhaven Memorial Chapel, 1835 East Hastings Street, Vancouver, British Columbia. Phone 604-255-5444.
