January 5, 1946 – June 4, 2011
Gregory Henderson died on June 4, 2011 after a long and valiant battle with Alzheimer’s disease. A native of Vancouver, Greg graduated from Fort Vancouver High School where he was a competitive athlete in football and track, as well as student body president. Greg spent three years at Washington State University prior to beginning his professional career.
In 1971 Greg went to work for Standard Insurance Company. He earned his Certified Life Underwriter (CLU) designation in 1975 and went on to become a top producer for Standard for many years. In the mid-1980s Greg established Henderson & Associates, continuing his relationship with Standard while also expanding his product offerings. Greg was an invited speaker at many conventions and business conferences. Greg truly loved his profession and the many clients, friends, co-workers and business associates it brought into his life.
In 1969 Greg married Toni Gooch (who had attended rival Hudson’s Bay high school). Together they raised their daughters Kim, Melissa and Emily. With his wife and family Greg enjoyed spending time in Central Oregon, travelling to Hawaii, fine dining, seeing movies, participating in many sports and playing golf as often as he could get on a course.
Until his illness, Greg was an active member of the Church of the Good Shepherd and Royal Oaks Country Club. In the years immediately preceding his illness Greg embraced the twelve-step lifestyle. The habits and friends he made in that community became an important part of his life.
The family would like to give special thanks and acknowledgement to the amazing staff at Caretique dementia care facility.
Greg is survived by his wife Toni Henderson; his daughters Kim Reid, Melissa Henderson and Emily Henderson; his grandchildren Curtis and Kate Reid and Zoe and Zeke Henderson; his sister Kristine Porterfield and her family; and his brother Roger Henderson.
