

He, two younger brothers and a younger sister grew up with an idyllic lifestyle on a small family farm with cows, cattle, pigs, chickens, and a large garden. The Snyder family, along with the Brader and Kunze families—all related—had some of the last remaining prune orchards in Clark County.
Larry attended Minnehaha Elementary School, Lewis Junior High, and graduated from Hudson’s Bay High School in Vancouver in 1958. He worked his way through college at Linnton Plywood in Portland, OR. He graduated from Clark College in Vancouver, WA with an Associate of Arts Degree, and Portland State University in Portland, OR with a Bachelor’s Degree and three Masters Degrees.
Larry’s teaching career spanned thirty years. He spent his first year in The Dalles, OR teaching ninth grade. The next twenty-nine years were spent in the Vancouver School District, almost exclusively in Junior High/Middle School. After his retirement in 1994, he worked as a substitute administrator in the Vancouver School District. During his teaching career, he was involved in negotiations and leadership with the Vancouver Education Association.
Larry was an avid fisherman of salmon and steelhead, duck hunter, goose hunter, gardener, reader, and World War II history buff. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited. He became a tireless advocate of sport-fishing and was a lifetime member and past President of the Vancouver Wildlife League.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Ellanor Snyder, and his former wife, Dorothy Simpson (nee Johnson).
He is survived by his beloved companion Carla Lehto of Vancouver, WA; son Larry (Karen) Snyder, Jr. of Beaverton, OR, and daughter Stacey (John) Whearty of Vancouver, WA; grandson Glenn Whearty of Vancouver, WA; brothers Jerry (Janet) Snyder of Vancouver, WA, Bill (Bobbie) Snyder of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and sister Helen (Gerry) Ells of Castle Rock, WA; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at the Luepke Community Center, Saturday, March 12th at 1:00 pm (1009 E. McLoughlin Blvd. Vancouver, WA 98663). Memorial contributions may be made to the Vancouver Wildlife League (P.O. Box 1662, Vancouver, WA 98668).
