Myrtle’s family was an original pioneer family. She was raised in Prineville and graduated from Crook County High School. After high school, she moved to Portland and went to work in the shipyards. Her neighbor had a handsome brother, Oren, whom Myrtle met while he was on leave from the Marines. After his discharge, they began dating and married in Portland on March 10, 1946. Shortly after their marriage, the couple moved to Tillamook so that Oren could run the Texaco plant, which he later purchased. After Oren took over the operation, Myrtle became the company bookkeeper. Once settled in Tillamook, Myrtle and Oren started their family, first having a son, Roger, followed by a daughter, Diane. They remained in Tillamook until Oren’s retirement when they moved to Salem. Eventually they landed in Vancouver in order to be closer to their children.
Myrtle was a very active member of Tillamook Christian Church. She enjoyed traveling and visiting with people. She was a very social lady and a real people person. Besides traveling and socializing, her other favorite hobby was collecting brooches. She has an enormous collection. It was not uncommon for her to fill a frame with brooches to use as a wall display, listing the place where each brooch came from or person who gave it to her.
Myrtle is survived by her children, Roger (Shelley) Lucas of Dubois, WY and Diane (Lee) Olmsted of Vancouver, WA; grandchildren, Shawna Ricks of Spokane, WA, Sharleen Lucas of Bend, OR, Lindsay Lucas of Portland, OR, Kari Campbell of Seattle, WA and Kurt Olmsted of Portland, OR; great grandchildren, Ryan Ricks, Lucas Ricks, Josiah Ricks, Madelyn Olmsted, Henry Olmsted and Liam Campbell; and sister, Ann Temple of Gatesville, Texas. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Oren and great grandson, Colin Campbell.
A private service for Myrtle will be held at a later date.
Arrangements under the direction of Vancouver Funeral Chapel, Vancouver, WA.
