

Rodney William McBroom was born in Eugene, the third child of Bill and Margaret McBroom, joining two older brothers Jim and Mike. In the late 1950’s he joined the U.S. Navy serving aboard the aircraft carrier BON HOMME RICHARD CV-31 as a photographer. He was born, raised and retired from the meat industry. His father owned the Irish-McBroom Meat Plant in Eugene. At the age of five he packed hot dogs for his father for a penny a piece. After the Navy he returned to the meat industry. He drove truck, became a butcher, went into sales, opened markets for people and helped people during deer season if they got behind in their businesses.
Humor was a huge part of Rodney and Irene’s life. He was loved by all who knew him. After retirement he taught himself to oil paint and won ribbons at the county fair. His pride and joy was his vegetable garden and fruit trees.
Rodney passed in Vancouver, WA where he resided. He and wife, Irene, Celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 22. They have three sons, Sean (Dawn), Brannon (Melody) and Michael; five grandchildren, Shane, Austin, Taylor, Brittany and Sydney. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Mike.
A celebration of his life will be held at a future date.
