

Walter Elmer Snoen, 97, of Vancouver passed away Sunday, January 17, 2016 at Columbia Sunset Adult Family Home with his family by his side. He was born August 7, 1918 in Genesee, Idaho to Albert and Myrtle Snoen.
Known to family and friends as Elmer, as a child of about 8 years old, Elmer and his family moved from Idaho to Vancouver, Washington. He attended Vancouver High School, graduating in 1938. During school, Elmer met the love of his life, Helen Bild, and they married the same year that they graduated. During WWII, Elmer served in the Navy. After his return, he began working for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier. He moved up the ranks during his time with the U.S.P.S., finally retiring as the Superintendent of Mails. After Helen passed away Elmer married Carol Nadine Walker.
Elmer was a life-long member of Vancouver and Portland Foursquare Churches, teaching Sunday school for 65 years. He was so committed that he received a perfect attendance award for never missing a Sunday school class for 15 years! At Portland Foursquare he also served as head usher.
Elmer loved photography. His family cherishes many of his beautiful black and white scenic photos. He also enjoyed leather working, making model air planes and travel.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was very proud of all his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Elmer is survived by his daughters, Sharon Josephson and Carolyn (Bill) Nicolay; grandchildren, Lynnell Josephson, Carmen (Jim) Moorman, Erik (Mistie) Josephson, Jennifer Pfaff, Jonathan (Tammy) Pfaff, Jeremy (Heather) Pfaff, Christian Nicolay, Sharon (Oliver) Roy and Alison (James) Watson; and many great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Helen of 52 years and his second wife Carol of 18 years; and his son-in-law, John Josephson.
Viewing for Elmer will be Friday, January 22nd from 10am- 5pm at Vancouver Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will be 10:30am, Saturday, January 23rd at Vancouver Foursquare Church, 1801 Daniels St., Vancouver, WA 98660.
