Agnes was born June 16, 1938 in Syracuse New York to Parents Joseph and Alice McCarthy.
She was the second born child out of four girls, Martha Valenti and Maureen Pesek and predeceased by Sr. Johanne McCarthy of the Sisters of St. Joseph’s.
She attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School and met her Spouse of 65 years Joseph Smithling who predeceased her in Mar 09, 2021.
They had a huge family and such is the legacy they leave to carry on in the foundation of their love. Agnes spent the majority of her life with her Husband Joseph in New York, raising kids and working outside the home as well. They were so happy to retire to Florida and had many friends like the “Sunset Group '' where they enjoyed weekly Sunday night sunsets at Manasota Beach surrounded by friends. Agnes spent a lot of her time volunteering for various good causes and had many social activities that kept her busy. She loved anything social and had a wonderful sense of humor and the more the merrier attitude.
The children survived in birth order: Theresa Hafler, Joanne Buis, John Smithling, Karen Carnegie, Carol Mellon, Jeff Smithling, Mary Espersen , Amy Smithling and granddaughter Jennifer Rizzo.
Special Thanks to Tidewell Hospice of Charlotte County for the care and dignity they preserved during this time of Agnes Smithling’s Transition.
