Byron was preceded in death by his mother, Anne M. Kay, and his sister, Bridget A. Kay.
Byron received his early education at Honesdale Catholic School, graduated from Honesdale High School, and went on to study at East Stroudsburg State University and the University of
Houston.
While living in the North, Byron was a lover of snow and winter sports like skiing and tobogganing; and he enjoyed playing tennis in the warmer months. Once he moved south he took up cycling, rollerblading, beachcombing and spending hours with his series of beloved dogs; enjoying the beauty of the great outdoors.
Later in life , he was faced with many serious health challenges, which he endured with his characteristic positive attitude and sense of humor. Byron was always appreciative of every gesture or moment of care that he received; making sure to thank everyone along the way. In his recent words; he experienced " exemplary care" at Venice House, where he spent two days in hospice prior to his passing.
He enjoyed many chocolate ice creams and approved of the decor and the accommodations. High praise from someone who studied Hospitality at University Of Houston and was always keenly aware of the finer details of the service industry.
The family wishes to express our appreciation for the love and comfort provided to us in those difficult days. Special thanks go to RN’s Dorothy and Jennifer, as well as his entire care team at Venice House.
Plans for a memorial service are pending. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in Byron's memory to Tidewell Hospice and Palliative Care, Venice House, or to your local hospice provider.
The Lemon Bay Funeral Home and Cremation Services is handling the arrangements with the
utmost care and respect, honoring Byron's legacy with dignity.
