Gordon “Gordie” Willard Jarvis, 90 passed away on December 28, 2025, in Venice, Florida, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on his family’s farm in Bakersfield, Vermont, on February 9, 1935. He grew up in St. Albans Bay, VT and graduated from BFA-Fairfax in 1952 while working on the farm. He later married Patricia McAllister, with whom he raised four children in South Burlington, Vermont.
In high school, Gordie was a standout athlete in baseball and basketball. Later in life, he continued his love of sports by playing adult softball, and in 1971 his team participated in the Softball World Series.
He worked for General Electric in Burlington before joining Maynard’s Auto Supply. A natural-born entrepreneur, Gordie eventually established Gordie’s University Texaco and expanded that single service station into four additional locations including Interstate Texaco later known as Interstate Shell. He went on to found several other businesses, including University Wholesalers. He also purchased and renovated Goose Point Campground in Alburgh, Vermont, as well as numerous apartment buildings throughout the state.
From 1955 to 1958, Gordie proudly served in the Army National Guard 206th Field Artillery.
Beyond his love for his family, Gordie’s greatest passions were hunting and fishing. He traveled throughout the United States and Canada with friends and family. He was known as a master outdoorsman who generously shared his knowledge with others. He credited much of what he learned to his grandfather, Fred Chapman. Gordie earned his captain’s license and served as charter captain of the Cagey J on Lake Champlain and Lake Ontario.
In 1978, Gordie purchased property in Waits River, Vermont, where he built a sugarhouse called Waits River Maple Grove, which has since grown into The Vermont Maple Farm. He cherished spending countless hours there with his children, grandchildren, and friends — tending the arch day and night in the Green Mountains to produce award-winning maple syrup.
In Alburgh, Vermont, Gordie belonged to the Columbus Lodge No 11 as a third-degree Master Mason. He was an active member of his community, serving as Town Lister, participating in the Chamber of Commerce, and contributing in many other ways.
He and his wife Kathy also enjoyed a second home in Orlando, where Gordie made many new friends, played golf, and loved playing bridge at the clubhouse.
Gordie is survived by his four children: Michael Jarvis (Kay), Kathy Rocheleau (Dave), Shari Martin (Peter), and Timothy Jarvis (Meghan), eight grandchildren, Nathan Jarvis, Rachael Jarvis, Brittni Compagnon (Jason), Matt Stewart, Eric Jarvis (Carlie), Chris Rocheleau, Greg Stewart (Luvh), Natalie Icart (Kevin) and 3 great grandchildren, Caiden, Claire and Emme.
He was predeceased by his wife, Kathryn Jarvis; his former wife, Patricia Jarvis; his mother, Helen Jarvis; his father, Howard Jarvis; his stepfather, Willard Jarvis; his brother, Ronald Jarvis; his sister, Carol Ann Jarvis; and many beloved friends.
Gordie had a heart of gold, an infectious smile, and a wonderful sense of humor. He touched countless lives and will be deeply missed by many.
