

Hurbert Franklin Anderson, age 90, passed away on December 15, 2023 surrounded by family in Venice FL. Hurbert was born on September 28, 1933 in Michigan to parents John H. Anderson and Frida I. Anderson. He graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He enlisted in the Army and served during the Korean War. After earning his parachute badge training with the 11th Airborne Division Hurbert was assigned to the 598th Airborne Engineering Company as a Combat Pioneer. He was awarded a National Defense Service Medal, a Good Conduct Medal, and his Parachute Badge.
Hurbert had a lifelong career in business. In his younger years he prospected land for Pure Oil Company and then went into the automotive field as a car salesman earning top performance honors and eventually becoming a dealership owner. Hurbert finished his career as a business partner with his eldest son, Kristopher, at Advanced Building Products based in the metropolitan New Orleans area. Hurbert retired in 1999 to Mississippi where he frequented Florida and then moved permanently to Port Charlotte Florida in 2012.
Hurb, as his friends knew him, enjoyed sports and was active coaching his sons playing ice hockey at Goodrich High School in Michigan during their high school years. He continued coaching for many years thereafter finding enjoyment in mentoring the young athletes. He had a soft spot for animals and was known for taking in strays. He had been known to help people in need by creating jobs for them in an effort to help them get a fresh start. He always encouraged people to do their very best and to not give up. Hurb was a gregarious person and loved being around family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years Anne Marie (Cornish) Anderson and their 3 children Kristopher (Marlo Jeansonne), Kristian “Guss”, and Kristin (Tom DeBari), 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, and cousins in Sweden.
Cremation has taken place and Hurb will be laid to rest in February at Sarasota National Cemetery, Sarasota FL in a private ceremony.
