

Charlie Covell, 92, passed away June 6, 2025, in Venice Fl.
He was born February 3, 1933, the second child of Ivor and Ethel (Nicholson) Covell in Fremont In.
He attended Scott Center High School . After graduating, Charlie worked on the family farm until he joined the Air Force in 1952. He was eventually stationed in Alaska and worked in the control tower.
After the service Charlie attended Ball State University for a year before being hired at Baer Field Airport. He worked as an Air Traffic Controller for 23 years before taking a medical retirement. After retirement he and his wife Karen moved to Fremont Indiana building a home on Snow Lake and spending time on the water.
Wanting to keep busy Charlie received pest control certification through Purdue University and started Charlie’s Spider Fighters which is still in business today. When he hung up his pest control hat, Charlie eventually began working at The Printing Place where he stayed until he and Karen moved to Venice Fl. He was involved with many organizations including The American Legion, the Moose, the Elks, and the Masons. He enjoyed chatting with people via his Ham radio.
While his given name was Leonard, the story is, a bus driver started calling him Charlie and the nickname stuck.
He was preceded in death by his wife Karen, his parents Ivor and Ethel Covell, his brother Glenn Covell, and his nephew Fred Covel. He is survived by his daughter Kimberly (Frank) Campbell of Fremont, IN, step-granddaughter Krystle (Ryan Gindlesperger) Campbell, his nephew Derrold (Nancy) Covell, nieces Pam (Pat) Anderson, and Jan (Tod Molter) Gearhart. Great and Great-great nieces and nephews and numerous friends and extended family.
Kays-Ponger-Uselton Funeral Home will provide cremation. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
